Birmingham-based MPB Structures wins contract to build the ‘substructure’ for HS2’s Curzon Street Station
04 Feb 2025- Civil engineering specialist MPB Structures will build the substructure for HS2’s flagship station in Birmingham
- A team of around 140 people will start delivering the works in early 2025
- Training and jobs will be available for local people

Work begins on Digbeth lighting scheme following HS2 grant
20 Nov 2024- A grant of over £210,000 has been awarded to Birmingham City Council from the HS2 Business and Local Economy Fund (BLEF)
- The funding boost will help to illuminate and signpost walking routes in Digbeth, Birmingham
- Local schemes close to HS2’s route in the West Midlands have benefitted from a share of just over £3.5 million from HS2’s combined community and business funds over a seven-year period

HS2 reaches halfway point on key ‘green tunnel’
13 Nov 2024- Construction of the 700-metre-long HS2 Burton Green ‘green tunnel’ is now 50% complete, with 150 people supporting the build process
- The last year has seen completion of the southern portal entrance and complex underground structural elements, including retaining walls and over 1,300 piles using 33,000 cubic metres of concrete in total
