Nineteen-year-old Lisa-Marie from London is defying gender biases. As a civil engineering apprentice helping to build Britain’s new railway, she’s flying the flag for women and girls working in the construction sector to mark International Women’s Day (8^th March 2021).

Women aiming to get back into employment after a career break, or who are looking for a new start, are encouraged to consider a career on board Britain’s new railway, HS2.

• The plans represent the biggest single landscape and habitat creation project within HS2’s Green Corridor programme
• The project will contribute towards a localised net gain in biodiversity within the Colne Valley
• 127 hectares of new chalk grassland, woodland, wood pasture and wetland habitats to be created
• 65,000 trees and shrubs of 32 species, and 3.5km of new hedgerows to be planted

• HS2 launches competition for people in Warwickshire to name the 2,000 tonne tunnel boring machine that will dig under Long Itchington Wood
• Local schools, colleges and scouts already signed up
• Warwickshire County Council starts the ball rolling with suggestion of famous local author George Eliot
• Three shortlisted names will be put to a national public vote in the summer
