21 Oct 2021- A disused bridge near Saltley in Birmingham has been safely demolished by HS2’s main works civils contractor Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV)
- Over 685m3 of concrete, 165 tonnes of reinforcement and 250 tonnes of structural steel were removed by precision techniques over four weekends

Legendary music producer and rail enthusiast Pete Waterman unveils name of HS2’s first Midlands tunnelling machine
20 Oct 2021- HS2’s Long Itchington Wood tunnel boring machine (TBM) named ‘Dorothy’ after Dorothy Hodgkin, who in 1964 became the first British woman to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
- Pete Waterman OBE, originally from Coventry, visited the Warwickshire construction site to reveal the name.

HS2 apprentice celebrates success at BAME awards
13 Oct 2021- Project management apprentice Bintou Keita wins Apprentice of the Year 2021 (Transport & Logistics) at the BAME Apprentice Network Awards.
- Attending the event, Andy Street, Metro Mayor for the West Midlands spoke about the importance of apprenticeship programmes and their role in supporting the UK’s economic recovery.
- HS2’s apprenticeship programme continues to attract diverse talent, recently welcoming a new generation of 26 apprentices.
