Balfour Beatty VINCI, HS2’s construction partner for the West Midlands section of Britain’s new high speed railway, is working in partnership with Birmingham City University to support its graduates into employment.

HS2 Ltd today announces that it is holding a series of weekly webinars to ensure British businesses benefit from over 400,000 contract opportunities that building Britain’s new high speed railway will create.

On the first day of Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone [Tuesday 1 June] HS2 Ltd outlines how the project’s new low-carbon technology will support Birmingham City Council’s objective to reduce pollution and improve air quality in the city.

• New Zero Trim Pile Technique, utilising a vacuum excavator, has been successfully tested on HS2
• Innovation will reduce health and safety risks involved with piling, as well as significantly reducing carbon emissions, cost, and noise
• The technique has been developed by HS2 contractor Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture and Cementation Skanska

Just days after the historic launch of its first giant tunnelling machine ‘Florence’, HS2’s construction partner Align JV has announced today that it is recruiting nine new apprentices to play a part in the monumental programme of work to dig the 10 mile twin bore tunnels under the Chilterns.
