Minister leads call for South West businesses to bid for work on HS2
05 Jul 2021HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson is hosting an online event for small and medium sized businesses in the South West to demonstrate just how simple it is to register an interest in joining HS2’s supply chain.

HS2 announces new landmark as 700,000 trees planted and over 100 new habitats thriving on Phase One of the project
05 Jul 2021- 700,000 trees have been planted of the 7 million planned across the Phase One route.
- 118 environmental sites now home to a range of species including amphibians, dragonflies, otters, great crested newts, reptiles and badgers.
- HS2’s Woodland Fund has allocated over £1.2m as part of a grant scheme managed by the Forestry Commission, with another 213,000 trees planted.

HS2 unveils eco-friendly vegetable oil fuel innovation during London Climate Action Week
01 Jul 2021- UK first as eco-friendly Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuelled piling rig trialled on HS2 construction site in London.
- One of many green innovations on sites across the project, including hybrid and fully electric machinery, battery powered lighting, hydrogen power units as a replacement for diesel power generation, EFC concrete and solar energy - all cutting carbon emissions and improving air quality.

Momentum builds as HS2 launches second giant tunnelling machine
01 Jul 2021HS2 this week launched ‘Cecilia’ - the second of two enormous 2,000 tonne tunnelling machines that will excavate the ten mile long tunnels beneath the Chiltern hills just outside London. The first machine – ‘Florence’ – was launched just over a month ago.

New HS2 landscape design will revive Midlands Heritage Hotspot
30 Jun 2021- Extensive new landscape and wildlife areas inspired by local heritage will be created around two new HS2 viaducts over the River Cole in Warwickshire.
- New footpaths and cycleways will promote active travel and enable people to explore the rich history of the area.
- Ponds and habitats will provide homes for amphibians, dragonflies, otters, great crested newts, reptiles and badgers.
